Seen in flashback to 1978, this former Marine in his late 30s runs a drive-in theater, but loses everything when drive-ins go out of style. Scruffy and increasingly disgruntled, Bill faces a series of humiliating setbacks in full view of his young son, Paul. An "intense" and volatile man, he may be responsible for the sniping spree -- a series of bloody reprisals for what he considers past injuries.
He committed suicide in 1978, leaving a note to his son Paul.
