Lilly and Agent Yates Exchange Barbs through Scotty
[Yates has her first conversation with Scotty.]
Valens: Boss said these belong to you.
Yates: Diane Yates.
Valens: Scotty Valens.
Yates: You two partners?
Valens: Mmm.
Yates: What type of name is that-- Valens? Italian? Mexican?
Valens: Cuban, Puerto Rican.
Yates: As in Valenzuela. It's a shame to shorten that. I dated a Latino once. All talk, no follow through.
Valens: You're dating the wrong Latinos.
Yates: Well, I guess so. How about you put those pretty brown eyes of yours to good use? And don't worry, I don't bite. Anymore.
Valens: (clears throat) I got grass, trees, rocks, park bench. Mmm, there's something here. Could be a homeless squat.
Yates: I don't recall an interview in the file.
Valens: They must've split when they saw the cops.
Yates: Yeah, but it'd be nice to know if he saw something.
Valens: I'll call patrol. Talk to the beat cop. I miss a spot shaving?
Yates: Mm-mmm. Just looking. Thinking you'd fit right in at the Bureau. You fill out a suit nicely, and I'm sure you're good at sucking up. Minority doesn't hurt.
Valens: Yeah. I'll get right on that. So, what's the Bureau want with this case, anyway?
Yates: What's it like working with the Bleach Queen?
Valens: Well, Lil and I make a good team.
Yates: Oh, I bet.
Valens: It's not like that.
Yates: You're not her type?
[Later, Lilly fills Scotty in on their progress.]
Valens: Get something off the homeless guy?
Rush: Mm. Saw the shooter.
Valens: That's good.
Rush: Mm. So, uh, Yates and Stillman had a thing.
Valens: A thing, thing?
Rush: It was what she said. Yeah, broke up his marriage.
Valens: (sighs) Wow.
Rush: The bigger issue is, Cougar Town won't let me in on what the Feds' interest in this case is.
Valens: Might have a connect to Darby in Delaware County.
Rush: Yeah, I'll dig around, see what I can find.
