Part Two of the two-part sixth season finale.
Flashbacks of Lilly Rush to 1976 (with her father), to 1980 (with John Stillman) and to the 90s.
A younger John Stillman (played by the same actor Anthony John Crane) was also seen in 1980 in the episode 1x12 Glued.
The victim Kate Butler appears twice in the closing montage: first to Lilly after she is pulled out of the river and then to her parents.
Like in 5x11 Family 8108, a letter is read during the closing montage. This one is from Paul Cooper to Lilly:
Dear Lilly,
There are two sides to every story, neither of which I think you will find satisfactory. Suffice is to say there's no way I could have stayed with your mother and survive. In that chance you are already stronger than me. I was a lousy father. When I got sober enough to figure out how much I missed, it was too late to undo the damage. Much to my regret, I'll always be the dad who bought you a bike but never taught you how to ride it. There were a few moments I tried to reconnect along the way but you were on your own path by then, your own woman and you turned out great, kid.
I missed so much of your life, for that I am sorry, not only to you but for depriving myself all those times you needed a father, somebody to protect you. When you showed up that day at the park all these years later, my heart had jumped out of my chest, I thought maybe you came to judge me til I realize I'm the only parent you've got left. Like it or not, you only get one father. Just know if there's ever another moment in your life when you need me, I will be there.
