1x07 A Time to Hate

Summary
Lilly investigates the case of Daniel Holtz, a college baseball player who was found beaten to death in an alley behind a gay bar in 1964. Daniel's mother comes to Lilly in the hopes that his killer can be brought to justice before she dies. Lilly discovers the maltreatment gay victims received in the 60's, when her investigation discloses that it may have been a policeman's nightstick that made the lethal blows.
Lilly : You didn't know your son was gay?
Helen : I didn't wanna know. And now, much too late, I realize... that kept me from really knowing him.
Sidestories
Scotty Valens is doing much better this time around : he is motivated (So we'll fine'em. Knock on doors. Ask neighborhood people. Someone'll remember our guy.) & funny (Do you know how to deliver a baby? - I can learn anything), at ease with witness (Did you kill him ? I mean, that would solve our case ;-) and he makes Lilly laugh several times (blind policeman story and Vera should be finding true love right about now). He makes her cringe once, though : he's only misstep is with Tinkerbell (I'm just wondering, if you're getting beaten up 'cause you dress like a woman, and you don't wanna get beat up, why not stop dressing like a woman?).

Notes
Murder weapon: Baseball bat
Flashback style: Black & White
Motive: Gay bashing
Murder type: Murder 1
New lead: None
Other episodes from 1964:
4x16 The Good-bye Room
6x03 Wednesday's Women
new lead: none but the fact that little was done in the original investigation and that the mother wants her son's murder solved before she dies
why it went cold: noone 'pushed' and even more police was told to lay off
assigned detective sare both dead
aftermath: Danny's mother got to meet Hank and know a little more about her son (thanks to Lil's reunion agency just like in 1x05 the Runner)
There are actually 3 persons arrested for the murder, thanks to the testimony of the policeman. We don't hear the suspect confessing, but we see him making the deposition during the closing montage.
Vera & Jeffries seem to be working full time on this job.
Scotty is doing much better this time, except for a little mistep with Tinkerbell.
The squad uses Forensics to make sure the blunt force trauma was not done by a police nightstick.
In the opening flashback, Deborah's friend is played by Superstar's Andi Simmons.
