He’s 25 years old in 1954, African American, handsome, an orderly at the Friends’ Mental Hospital. He has a sweet smile and owns a transistor radio and finds himself attracted to Betty. He tries to help her when she’s kept too long in an ice bath, and is soon convinced by Bettie to pose nude for Carmen’s secret art class. However, they are caught by Nurse Olsen. His job is at stake for indulging these women and he’s forced to play a part in the final day of Bettie’s life.

He’s 78 years old in 2005, African American, healthy, handsome, neatly groomed. But there is something subdued about him. He keeps his eyes ahead when he’s questioned by Jeffries. He’s accused of having an affair with Bettie while she was in the mental hospital, which he denies.
