66, a gruff salt of the earth type, upstate New York dairy farmer, he holds a shotgun on Rush and Cavanaugh when they seek shelter in his barn near the Woodstock site. A proud patriot and a veteran who was bitterly disappointed when he was unable to serve a second term because of an injury, Wasserlauf tells Rush and Cavanaugh how he came to know David Quinn, the young soldier back from Vietnam that he met during Woodstock--and how enraged he became when he learned of David's plan to flee to Canada.
In 1969, 25, seen at his farm around the time of the Woodstock Festival, Wasserlauf is a veteran who chews out David for wearing dog tags, but when he finds out that David has done a tour in Vietnam, he views him with respect. Later, outraged when he learns that David is planning on going to Canada rather than go back for his second tour of duty, Wasserlauf becomes furious and disturbed when David's horrific reminiscences of war trigger memories he'd rather forget.
